A Chilly Journey: The Storm's Path Through the East

A powerful winter storm is making its way eastward, causing trouble for millions. Strong winds, heavy snow, and dangerous ice are all part of this storm's package. In some places, winds could reach up to 45 mph, with even stronger gusts expected in areas like Cleveland, Ohio, where winds might hit 60 mph. Blizzard warnings are in effect for over 2 million people in parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Heavy snow and strong winds are creating whiteout conditions, making travel extremely hazardous. Marquette, Michigan, has already seen a foot of snow, and parts of Minnesota are reporting over 6 inches, with more snow expected throughout the day.In the Northeast, an ice storm warning is in effect from New York through Vermont. Significant icing is already happening, with up to 0. 7 inches of ice possible. This can make travel impossible and cause trees and power lines to fall. By noon, the snow will have moved out of Wisconsin and into Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and western New York. Rain is expected to end in Baltimore and New York City but will continue in Boston and Maine. Icing will still be a problem in upstate New York and Vermont. By 6 p. m. ET, the rain should stop in Boston. However, lake effect snow is expected to start in Nebraska, Ohio, northeast Pennsylvania, and upstate New York. This lake effect snow could last throughout the week, with some areas like Orchard Park, New York, potentially seeing 1 to 3 feet of snow. Strong winds up to 65 mph could create whiteout conditions at times.
