The weather is about to take a nippy turn around Philly. Areas just beyond the city limits, on both sides of the Delaware River, are under a frost advisory for Friday morning. It's the coldest we've seen in over half a year! Don't expect a deep freeze, though. The city and Delaware County might stay frost-free, but cooler spots could wake up to a light dusting of white. Zachary Cooper, a meteorologist, says it's definitely possible. So, what's causing this chilly surprise? Clear skies, temperatures in the 30s, and light winds are teaming up to create perfect frost-making conditions. These conditions might stick around through the weekend. Frost advisories will keep coming until the growing season officially ends. That happens when temperatures hit 32 degrees or lower for the first time in an area.Here's a fun fact: it can frost even when it's not freezing. The air temperature is measured about six feet up, but it can be several degrees colder on the ground. Light winds help this happen by letting thin layers of cold air form near the surface. The dry spell continues in the Philly region. Highs will be in the 50s and lows between 35 to 40 degrees into next week. Rain? Not much. We've only seen 0. 81 inches this month, which is less than a third of what we usually get. Most of the region is in a "moderate drought, " with the rest "abnormally dry. " But there's hope!
