A Cleveland bar is packing up after just one year

5428 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, Ohio, USAFri Apr 24 2026
A sports bar in Cleveland called The W is closing its doors after just twelve months in the Gordon Square area. The announcement came with a short but excited social media post: “Big moves coming, Cleveland. ” The owners plan to shut down the current location on May 3rd, but they’re not leaving the city—they’re just relocating closer to where the action happens on game days.
The spot opened in a space that used to be called Banter, on Detroit Avenue. It was run by the same team behind Brewnuts, including Shelley Pippin, Ally Eclarin, and Cassy Kopp. The W aimed to be a welcoming place where fans could watch the Guardians, Cavs, WNBA games, and even women’s professional soccer all in one spot. At its pre-opening event last spring, screens were showing everything from Guardians games to the NFL Draft, women’s soccer, college baseball, and hockey. Now, with only a year under its belt, the bar is moving on. Owners say they want to be nearer to the stadiums so fans don’t have to travel far for big games. The first location in Gordon Square will get a proper goodbye party, giving regulars one last chance to raise a glass before the doors close for good.
