A Fresh Look Comes to Upper King Street
Charleston, USATue Jun 16 2026
After a full makeover, an old hotel on Upper King Street in Charleston is getting ready to reopen. The building used to be known as Hyatt Place, but now it has a new name and a fresh start as The Lowline Hotel. Instead of just updating the rooms, the hotel added fun new spots for guests to enjoy. There will be a place to sip craft beer on the roof, a spot to play virtual golf, and a restaurant serving Southern-inspired food like chicken waffle sliders and collard green frittata. A café will also offer coffee from a local roaster in Savannah.
The hotel’s menu highlights regional flavors, with dishes that blend modern twists on classic Lowcountry recipes. One of the standout features is a golf simulator lounge, where guests can play virtual rounds without leaving the building. Meanwhile, the rooftop taproom will have over 70 beers on tap, giving visitors plenty of choices. The café next door will serve locally sourced coffee, adding to the neighborhood vibe.
The hotel’s new name ties into a bigger project nearby. A two-mile park and trail called the Lowcountry Lowline is in the works, running through the heart of the city. The hotel sits right along this future path, making it a convenient stop for anyone exploring the area. With 197 rooms, the Lowline Hotel is part of a growing collection of stylish hotels under a well-known brand. The updates show how hotels are going beyond just beds and breakfasts to offer experiences that attract visitors.
