A local parent steps up for Bloomfield schools
Bloomfield, NY, USASun May 17 2026
Bloomfield voters have a quick decision to make this May. On the 19th, they’ll pick one new person for the school board to fill a five-year spot that pays nothing. One name appears on the ballot—Steele—but that doesn’t mean the vote is pointless.
The polling place, a large classroom at the middle-high school, opens early at 7 a. m. and stays open late until 8 p. m. , giving working families a chance to stop by after school or before work. Steele has lived here for a decade and has four kids currently in district classrooms, so he’s no outsider. Still, his application lacks details: no job, no past jobs, no past jobs or public roles listed. It’s a résumé with big gaps and short answers.
When asked about the biggest problem facing Bloomfield schools, Steele’s reply focused on “maintaining and elevating” everything. He talked about preparing “future leaders, builders, inventors, farmers, and caregivers, ” but didn’t say how. There’s no plan, no budget tweaks, no specific policy—just a hope that things will improve by keeping things the same.
The district newsletter carried his statement, but it reads more like a pep talk than a platform. Voters might wonder if someone can fight budget cuts or teacher shortages without first showing what they’ve done before.
