A man from Virginia Beach received a 45-year prison sentence for tricking women into taking out loans for him. Dion Lamont Camp was found guilty of 19 crimes, including fraud and identity theft. He convinced 14 women he was a rich businessman named Myles, driving fancy cars and wearing designer clothes. He claimed to make big money flipping houses, but investigators found this was a lie.
Camp would ask the women about their credit scores and jobs. He told them his assets were frozen due to IRS issues and asked them to take out loans in their names. He promised to pay them back once his accounts were unfrozen. The women, trusting him, took out loans and gave him the money or credit cards. Camp even used their personal information to open new credit cards without their knowledge.
Despite making small payments at first, Camp left the women with huge debts, often over $100, 000. The money he got was used to buy luxury items like a Mercedes and a Versace bathrobe. FBI Special Agent Dominique Evans said Camp exploited the women's trust, causing them financial and emotional harm.
After his arrest, Camp tried to get a loan for a BMW, claiming he worked at UPS, which was another lie. He is the father of 22 children and owes over $100, 000 in child support. Camp denied the charges, saying his business made thousands every month. Due to his convictions, he has to pay the U. S. government $1. 7 million.
