A man’s violent act at a Michigan synagogue linked to Hezbollah’s influence

A man originally from Lebanon carried out a shocking attack on a Michigan synagogue this month, ending his own life in the process. The FBI now classifies the March 12 incident as an act of terrorism. Police say he drove a truck into the building before firing shots and setting off fireworks, though no one else died—only children attending preschool nearby.
Investigators believe the attacker, 41, was influenced by Hezbollah’s ideology. However, they haven’t confirmed if he formally belonged to the group. No evidence points to other accomplices being involved. The FBI’s special agent in Detroit emphasized that had the man survived, they likely would have charged him with supporting Hezbollah financially or through resources.
Security footage and messages reveal the man shared photos of Iran’s late Supreme Leader online the day before his rampage. On the morning of the attack, he texted his sister from the synagogue parking lot, claiming he intended to carry out a large-scale terrorist act.
Hezbollah, formed in 1982 with backing from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, is considered a terrorist organization by the U. S. Iran itself has faced recent military action from the U. S. and Israel following escalations in the region.
