A familiar face in Jackson County's education scene is getting ready to say goodbye. Kevin Oxley, the superintendent of the Jackson County Intermediate School District, has decided to retire after working in schools for a long time. He made the announcement in December, saying he plans to step down at the end of the current school year.
Oxley's decision comes after 17 years of service in this role. He shared his excitement about starting a new chapter in his life, comparing it to graduating from school. His last day on the job will be June 30.
The school district is already looking for a replacement. They are accepting applications from within the district until January 2. Oxley expressed his thanks to the school board members, both past and present, for their support and guidance throughout his career.
David Salsbury, the president of the JCISD Board of Education, praised Oxley's contributions. He highlighted Oxley's commitment to putting students first, a quality that Salsbury believes is crucial for any superintendent. Salsbury also mentioned that Oxley has been a valuable asset to the district and the wider educational community in Jackson County.
Before becoming superintendent, Oxley had a varied career in education. He started as a teacher in Reed City and then took on administrative roles at different schools. He also served as the director of career and secondary education and assistant superintendent at the JCISD.
The Jackson County Intermediate School District plays a big role in the local education system. It supports public schools, charter academies, and parochial schools by providing various services. These include special education, early childhood services, career and technical education, professional development, technology support, and operational services.
