Two big names in the entertainment world, Goodfellas and Mediawan Sport, have teamed up to create something new. They call it Round 12, a label focused on making movies and TV shows about sports. The name comes from the final, decisive round in boxing matches, showing their aim to deliver high-stakes, gripping content. This partnership is driven by a shared love for sports and a belief that there's a gap in the market for well-crafted sports stories. Vincent Maraval from Goodfellas and Éric Hannezo from Mediawan Sport are leading this venture, aiming to make Round 12 a go-to source for sports content globally. Goodfellas has a history of supporting sports films, like "Maradona" and "Tyson, " which were shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Mediawan Sport, on the other hand, has produced notable sports documentaries such as "Le K Benzema" and "Anelka Misunderstood. "
Round 12 will debut at the Sport, Literature and Cinema Festival in Lyon. Their lineup includes two soccer fiction features and eight documentaries. One of the features is "Breakaway, " a thriller about a young man drawn into the dangerous world of underground soccer betting. Another is "Marta, " a coming-of-age story based on the life of soccer legend Marta Vieira da Silva. The documentary slate is equally impressive, featuring titles like "Ferrari: Fury & The Monster, " which explores the life of legendary Ferrari engineer Mauro Forghieri. Other documentaries include "The Lost Dream Team, " about Yugoslavia's last national basketball team, and "No More Trouble, " a personal journey into the life of a legendary yacht engineer. This collaboration aims to fill a niche in the market by providing high-quality, sports-driven content. With a strong lineup and experienced partners, Round 12 is poised to make a significant impact in the world of sports entertainment.
