In a Swiss ski town, a New Year's Eve celebration took a tragic turn when a fire broke out at a popular bar. The blaze, which started around 1:30 a. m. , caused panic and chaos as partygoers rushed to escape. Witnesses described seeing flames in shades of orange, yellow, and red consuming the building.
People who managed to get out found themselves in the cold, with no time to grab warm clothes. In a quick response, the curtains from a nearby restaurant were used to keep everyone warm. The fire led to many deaths and around 100 injuries, according to officials.
Samuel Rapp, a local resident, was having dinner with his girlfriend when he heard about the fire. He rushed to the scene and found a chaotic situation with people screaming and others lying on the ground. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but authorities believe it was an accident.
A nearby bank opened its doors to provide shelter for the survivors. Tables were moved aside to make space, and the warmth and light inside helped in treating the injured. Outside, ambulances and helicopters were busy taking victims to nearby hospitals and specialized burns units.
The next day, the bar was covered in white sheeting, and a tent was set up outside. A hearse was parked in front, and a policeman stood guard next to two festive reindeer. The scene was a stark contrast to the joyful celebration that had been planned.
