Santiago Canyon College (SCC) threw a massive 25th-anniversary bash in November, and it was a huge success. The event raised a whopping $124, 000 for the college's foundation, making it the biggest fundraising event in SCC's history. This wasn't just any party—it was a celebration of 25 years of providing quality education to the community. The gala, held at The Richland in Orange and sponsored by SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, brought together over 170 supporters, alumni, and community partners. They came to honor the college's legacy and help shape its future. SCC took the opportunity to recognize three outstanding alumni: Dr. Heidy Sasvin, Jarad Hildenbrand, and Phillip Wu, who have made significant strides in their respective fields.
The evening was packed with excitement, including a live auction and a paddle raise where guests pledged donations on the spot. The highlight of the night was the story of Sara Gasca, a current SCC student who overcame a tough childhood filled with drugs and abuse. She dropped out of college after high school but found a second chance at SCC. Now, she's a 30-year-old mom of twins, maintaining a 3. 89 GPA, and pursuing a degree in geology with internships at NASA. Gasca's journey shows how SCC's support can change lives. The funds raised will establish the Strenger Vasquez Legacy of Innovation Fund, named after two former SCC presidents. This new scholarship will help more students achieve their dreams. The SCC Foundation also supports various on-campus programs, like the Hawks Nest Basic Needs Center and the Speech and Debate team. SCC's Foundation Board Chair, Betty Valencia, who is also an SCC alumna, shared her commitment to the college. She believes SCC is a big deal because of its dedication to students. Thanks to the support from the gala, SCC can continue to make a difference in students' lives and help them reach their goals.
