But he fled to Mexico.He was arrested in 2006. A jury found him guilty of first-degree rape. He was supposed to be deported after his sentence. But now, he's back in jail. Mesa Sanchez met Duran-Maya in 2024. She says he manipulated her. She cut off contact after he was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender. On October 13, Duran-Maya allegedly broke into Mesa Sanchez's apartment. He waited for her to come home. When she told him to leave, he attacked her. He hit her with a hammer. Then, he forced her into a taxi. Mesa Sanchez escaped when the taxi stopped at a light. She ran and screamed for help. Duran-Maya allegedly fled the scene. Mesa Sanchez is recovering. She's getting support from her family and friends. She's also relying on her faith. Duran-Maya is in jail. He's waiting for his court date. No defense attorney has been appointed yet.
