A recent event has added to the sorrow of a plane crash that happened in Kentucky a few months ago. A man who was hurt when the UPS cargo plane crashed into a scrapyard passed away on Christmas Day. This brings the total number of people who have died because of the crash to 15. The man who died, Alain Rodriguez Colina, was working at Grade A Auto Parts & Recycling when the plane crashed into the business on November 4. He was one of four employees from the company who died in the crash. Customers of the business were also among the victims.
The plane, UPS Flight 2976, was taking off from Louisville’s airport when its left engine came off. The plane then crashed into nearby businesses and burst into flames. Three pilots on the plane also died in the crash. Investigators later found cracks where the engine was connected to the wing. After the crash, all MD-11 planes were grounded. These planes had been used for cargo flights for over a decade. UPS and the engine manufacturer, General Electric, have been sued for wrongful death. The lawsuits claim that the companies did not do enough to maintain the older planes. Both UPS and GE say they prioritize safety and are helping with the investigation. The crash has left many families grieving, and officials have asked for prayers for those affected.
