In Addis, the Police Department has recently installed new cameras at major intersections to combat car break-ins. Over the past two months, the department reported around 20 car break-ins or attempted break-ins. To tackle this issue, they've set up three quad cameras, each providing a 360-degree view. These cameras are partly funded by a $25,000 state grant, with the rest coming from the police department's budget.
The cameras are placed at three intersections along LA-1, including Belle Vale Drive near Sugar Mill Apartments and East Nic Drive, where car break-ins have increased. These cameras offer detectives more tools to investigate crimes and identify suspects. Even if witnesses don't get a license plate, officers can use the cameras to track down vehicles based on descriptions.
Addis Interim Police Chief Jason Langlois hopes to expand the camera system to neighborhoods to further prevent crime. He mentioned that additional cameras will be installed in various spots around the town. These new cameras aim to make Addis safer by deterring and solving car-related crimes more effectively.
