Airbnb and Anysphere Face U. S. Probe Over Chinese AI Use
USA, WashingtonThu Apr 30 2026
House Republicans have opened a new inquiry into how U. S. tech firms might be using AI models built in China.
The investigation comes as lawmakers push to curb what they see as national‑security risks and to stay ahead in the global AI contest.
Both the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Select Committee on China sent formal letters to Airbnb Inc. and Anysphere Inc. , asking for details about their AI systems.
Officials say the companies may be part of a wider “Chinese espionage campaign” that tries to speed up China’s AI growth by tapping into American tech innovations.
The request for information is part of a broader effort by Congress to track how U. S. companies use foreign AI technology and whether that poses threats to sensitive data or national security.
If the companies are found to rely heavily on Chinese AI models, they could face stricter scrutiny and possibly new regulations aimed at limiting foreign influence in critical tech sectors.
The probe reflects growing concerns that the rapid rise of Chinese AI could undermine U. S. technological leadership and compromise security.
Both Airbnb and Anysphere have yet to respond publicly, but the letters signal that lawmakers are serious about tightening oversight of AI development.
