Airstrike in Gaza Raises Tension as Iran Conflict Hits Ceasefire

Gaza Strip, Khan YounisTue Mar 17 2026
The latest strike by Israeli forces in Gaza killed at least three people, including a child, according to local health officials. The attack hit a vehicle in the western part of Khan Younis, south of the enclave. Twelve others were wounded in the same incident. Israel says it targets Hamas cells when it strikes, but critics argue the attacks are linked to its war with Iran and Hezbollah. Since the conflict began, more than 72, 000 Palestinians have been reported dead in Gaza, with over 670 killed after the ceasefire last October. Since late February, at least 40 people have died in Gaza from Israeli fire. In Cairo, representatives of a U. S. peace initiative met with Hamas leaders to protect the October ceasefire.
A Palestinian source said Hamas feels Israel is using the Iran war to avoid its commitments under the U. S. plan. Israel denies this claim. The fighting has spilled over into the West Bank. Israeli troops shot a 17‑year‑old Palestinian and injured another near Salfit after stones were thrown at vehicles. Rights groups say settlers are using the movement restrictions from the Iran war to attack Palestinians, with roadblocks delaying medical help. At least five West Bank Palestinians have been killed since the February 28 conflict began. The situation remains volatile, with both sides blaming each other for violations of the ceasefire.
