Amazon has rolled out a new online store called Haul, designed to compete with super-cheap e-commerce giant Shein. The idea is simple: everything costs less than $20. Most items will be even cheaper, with some as low as $1. 79. You might find things like a set of jewelry for $2. 99 or an iPhone case for $1. 99. But to get free shipping, you’ll need to spend at least $25. And don’t expect super-fast delivery – it could take up to two weeks.
Shein has been a tough competitor, making over $32 billion in 2023, more than Amazon or Walmart online. But Shein has also faced criticism for its fast-fashion model, which isn’t great for the environment. Amazon says it’s working to minimize its impact too, aiming to be carbon neutral by 2040. For now, Haul is only available on a mobile app, and it’s still in the testing phase.
