Baby Monitor Alert: Hidden Links to China Raise Privacy Concerns

Missouri, USAWed Jun 17 2026
Missouri’s top lawyer, Catherine Hanaway, warned parents that some baby monitors sold in the U. S. might secretly send data back to a Chinese company tied to Beijing’s military. She spoke on a news program about an investigation that started when a tech expert from the Kentucky Attorney General’s office examined the inside of these devices. The review revealed that the hardware and software were once owned by a firm called Dahua, which U. S. intelligence says shares information with the Chinese government. Even after the original company spun off into a new name, the same data routes still point to Dahua.
Hanaway said that Lorex, a well‑known maker of baby monitors, claimed its products protect privacy, but the evidence shows otherwise. The U. S. Department of Defense lists Dahua as a military company, meaning it must comply with Chinese requests for information. Parents should be worried because these cameras sit in the most private spots of a home, watching over newborns. The lawsuit argues that Lorex misled consumers about security and that the company is feeding data back to its former parent. While the case proceeds, Missouri urges families to avoid using these monitors and seeks accountability for deceptive marketing.
