Baltimore's Crime Rates: A Concerning Start to 2026

Baltimore is facing a troubling rise in crime rates at the beginning of 2026. The latest reports from the Baltimore Police Department show that crime has gone up in many areas compared to the same time last year. The numbers are not good. Larceny, which is theft, has increased by 18%. Theft from cars has gone up by 31%, and stealing car parts has jumped by 32%. In Southeast Baltimore, people are reporting thefts of radar sensors from their vehicles. One resident said that even at the car dealership, they met a neighbor who had the same problem. In that area, theft of car parts has increased by a huge 83%.Other crimes like shoplifting, stolen cars, burglaries, and robberies have also gone up. Last year, Baltimore saw a decrease in homicides, with fewer than 150 cases. But in 2026, homicides have increased by 200%. As of January 18, there have been seven homicides, which is a 33% increase from the same time last year. Residents are worried about the rise in crime.
