Bears Eye Veteran Touchdowns and Strong Pass Rush
Chicago, USASat May 30 2026
The Chicago Bears are looking to shake up their offense for next season, favoring younger players but still considering seasoned veterans. Coach Ben Johnson praised rookie Luther Burden’s progress during OTAs, and many expect former first‑round pick Rome Odunze to step up. Yet the team’s current receiver list—Odunze, Burden, Kalif Raymond, Scotty Miller, Jadae Walker and rookie Zavion Thomas—has never had a 1, 000‑yard season, leaving a gap for experienced talent after trading DJ Moore to Buffalo.
Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano argues that former Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs could fill that void. Diggs signed a three‑year, $63. 5 million deal with New England but was released after one year, a move critics said was mainly financial. At the time, he faced assault accusations and public scrutiny over his relationship with Cardi B. He was later cleared of the charges, and his personal life has settled down. Manzano points out that Diggs still delivered strong performances, notably 85 catches for 1, 013 yards and four touchdowns in his last season.
At 33, Diggs is a year away from the ACL injury he suffered in 2024. While some teams may hesitate because of recent drama, Chicago could use him as a veteran presence and a reliable target for rookie Caleb Williams. He would offer stability at a relatively low cost.
Manzano also sees the Bears as an ideal destination for former Cowboys defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. The 33‑year‑old could boost the pass rush alongside Montez Sweat, even if he can’t secure a top‑tier role. Clowney’s experience against the run and his ability to pressure quarterbacks would add depth without breaking the bank.
The Bears have also highlighted their own young defensive end, Austin Booker, during OTAs, showing confidence in homegrown talent. Still, adding affordable veterans remains a smart strategy as the offseason moves forward.
