Sri Lanka has a problem. Many moms and health workers feel that the care given during pregnancy and childbirth is not always focused on the person. This is called person-centered maternity care. It means treating each mom as a unique individual with her own needs and feelings.
There are not enough studies in Sri Lanka that look at this issue from different angles. Most studies only look at one side of the story. They might ask moms about their experiences. Or they might ask doctors and nurses about their thoughts. But they rarely bring everyone together to find solutions.
This is a missed chance. By listening to moms, health workers, and advocates, Sri Lanka can create better ways to improve care. This is called co-creation. It means working together to find solutions that work for everyone.
For example, moms might say they want more respect and privacy. Health workers might say they need more training and resources. Advocates might say they want better policies. By bringing these views together, Sri Lanka can create interventions that truly improve the quality of care.
But this is not happening enough in Sri Lanka. There is a lack of studies that bring these different views together. This means that the care given to moms is not as good as it could be.
It's time for a change. Sri Lanka needs to start listening to all voices. By doing this, it can create a maternity care system that truly puts the person at the center.
