Richland County deputies are investigating a string of troubling incidents at a popular bar near the University of South Carolina. Over the past few months, three young women have reported feeling drugged after visiting TLC Sports Bar and Grill on Stadium Road. Sheriff Leon Lott is cautioning students and the community to stay alert and be careful at the bar, which he describes as a popular spot for college students.
The incidents occurred on September 13, October 31, and November 1. Sheriff Lott explains that the victims had no idea they were drugged until they started experiencing symptoms like memory loss, dizziness, and feeling unusually intoxicated.
Dr. William Richardson, an emergency medicine physician at Prisma Health, highlights the importance of being cautious with drinks. He advises bar-goers to know who they're with, trust their surroundings, and never leave their drinks unattended.
Sheriff Lott emphasizes that the situation could have been much worse. He fears that drugging incidents often lead to sexual assaults, which is something the authorities are striving to prevent. Deputies are currently reviewing video footage and conducting tests to gather more information about these incidents.
TLC Sports Bar and Grill declined to comment when approached by News19 for a statement.
