Living in a cozy town like Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Now, picture a massive, 60-acre business park popping up right in your backyard. That’s exactly what’s happening on Faison Road, and it’s causing quite a stir. The Carolina Business Park will include three huge buildings covering nearly half a million square feet, with offices and warehouses. It’s like an entire city within a city.
But hey, with great buildings come great traffic problems, right? Faison Road is already struggling with two lanes and plenty of congestion from places like Costco and Oceanside Collegiate Academy. Add this new business park to the mix, and you’ve got a real traffic jam ahead. Michael Trotter, a resident, is worried about this. He thinks the town should have done a traffic survey and planned things out better.
And it gets worse. Opposite the business park is a big assisted living and senior living neighborhood. Patrick Faver, a resident there, is unsure what the influx of traffic and activity will do to their peaceful community. After all, an industrial complex isn’t exactly the best neighbor for a retirement community.
Many folks in Mount Pleasant had no clue what was going on until the construction started. There were rumors, but no concrete information. Trotter says the town should be monitoring traffic and growth in the area more closely. Mayor Will Haynie chimes in, explaining that the town can’t do much because of a decades-old development agreement. Seems like their hands are tied.
The town has made some road improvements, sure, but will that be enough? The project is set to finish by December 2024 or early 2025, and no one knows yet who’ll be moving in. It’s a big unknown, and the residents are left with a lot of questions.
