You might want to check your fridge or freezer. A huge recall just expanded, now covering nearly 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry items. The blame goes to a nasty bug called Listeria monocytogenes, found in products from BrucePac, an Oklahoma company. This recall isn't new; it's been growing since October 9th, when routine tests found the bug in some of their products.
Schools across the nation might have received some of these contaminated goods. Major retailers like Walmart, Trader Joe's, and Aldi also sold these products. You'll find brands like Jenny Craig, Boston Market, and Amazon Fresh on the recall list too.
The recalled items were made between late May and early October 2024. They're mostly prepared salads and bowls with chicken or turkey. The U. S. Department of Agriculture is worried that these products might still be in restaurants, schools, or even your home. They're urging everyone to toss them out or return them to the store.
Luckily, no one's gotten sick yet, but it's better to be safe. Listeria can cause serious illness, especially in kids, older adults, and those with weak immune systems.
