Nashville, USAWed Jun 10 2026
Bill Cody, a familiar name in country music radio and a long‑time host on WSM-AM, died at 67. His death was announced on June 9, after his family revealed he had been in critical condition and awaiting heart and kidney transplants. Cody’s son, David, posted a message thanking fans for their support and prayers, saying the family feels peace in knowing God heard them. Cody joined WSM in 1994 and hosted the popular show Coffee, Country & Cody for over three decades. Many artists appeared on his program, and he became known for welcoming listeners with a warm smile and easy conversation. He also frequently hosted events at the Grand Ole Opry, where he introduced performances and played a key role in Opry Country Classics. His first guest at WSM was the legendary Charlie Daniels.
Throughout his career, Cody earned top honors in country broadcasting. He was inducted into the Country Radio Hall of Fame in 2008, received a star on the Music City Walk of Fame in 2024, and will be entered posthumously into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame later this year. The Grand Ole Opry dedicated a Saturday evening broadcast to his memory, and WSM plans a marathon of memorable moments from Coffee, Country & Cody.
