Bill Murray’s Big‑Game Switch: From Cubs to Huskies
Indianapolis, USAMon Mar 30 2026
Bill Murray, the Chicago icon who cheers for the Cubs, Bears and Blackhawks, was not in Houston watching Illinois beat Iowa. Instead he flew to Washington, D. C. , where the University of Connecticut stunned Duke with a last‑second three‑point play to win the East Region.
Why the change of allegiance? Murray’s son, Luke, is an assistant coach at UConn and helped guide the Huskies to the Final Four for a second time in three seasons.
During that comeback, Murray could not hold back his excitement on television. He had even sat behind the UConn bench during their previous matchup against Illinois in the Elite Eight, a game that ended with a decisive UConn victory.
The two teams will clash again in the Final Four at Indianapolis’s Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, with tip‑off at 5:09 p. m. Central on TBS.
