Boosting IoV with Smart Roadside Units: A Cost-Reliability Balance

Ever thought about how cars talk to each other? The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) makes that happen, giving us real-time info sharing. But to keep this conversation smooth and reliable, especially when not many cars are connected, we need Roadside Units (RSUs). These RSUs help boost IoV’s dependability and make info sharing more effective. The goal is to place them in the best spots to minimize costs while keeping IoV reliable. We measure this reliability by looking at how much info is sent while online compared to the total distance. This is where the information transmission model comes in, helping us figure out where online and offline transmissions happen most.
We’ve set up a two-part optimization model. One part aims to cut RSU costs, while the other focuses on boosting IoV reliability. To solve this, we’ve designed a special version of NSGA-II called NNSGA-II, which adjusts the chances of mixing and changing solutions. Tests show that our model beats others that focus on cutting transmission time by up to 18% in different traffic conditions. Plus, NNSGA-II works a lot faster.
