Eastern Ontario, including Kingston, is in for a rough ride this weekend. A harsh Arctic air mass is moving in, bringing heavy snow and bitter cold. The weather service is urging everyone to get ready.
Snow bands will form around Lake Ontario, dumping a lot of snow, especially to the east and northeast. Some areas could see 15 to 30 centimeters of snow. Visibility will be poor, making travel tricky.
Blowing snow will make things worse, especially on Sunday. Winds will pick up, causing near-zero visibility at times. The heaviest snow squalls could make conditions deteriorate quickly.
Temperatures will stay way below normal. Highs will be in the minus teens, but it will feel even colder because of the wind chill. Overnight lows could drop to the low minus 20s in some spots.
Snow is expected to stick around until early Monday before things start to calm down. But don't expect a quick end to the wintery weather. Lake-effect flurries could linger into the start of the week.
If you don't have to travel, it's best to stay put. Roads will be slippery and visibility will be poor. Be ready for changing conditions if you must go out.
