Brazil and Germany Push for Stronger Trade Ties
Germany, HanoverSun Apr 19 2026
In Hanover, two leaders from different continents met to talk about a future that could bring more jobs and technology to both sides. The German head of government and the Brazilian president announced that they want Europe and Brazil to work together more closely, especially after a new trade deal went into effect on May 1.
They highlighted that the agreement is part of a bigger plan to keep trade fair and open, with as few taxes on goods as possible. The German leader said that the rules set by this deal show a commitment to an economy that follows agreed standards.
Brazil’s president praised the country as a key partner in supplying raw materials, especially at this major industrial fair. He noted that Brazil has huge deposits of minerals like niobium, graphite, rare earths, and nickel. Only a fraction of the country’s mineral resources have been fully explored yet.
The Brazilian president also said that these materials should help grow the country’s economy and improve living standards. He called for more technology sharing and a boost in local processing of these minerals, so Brazil can add value before exporting.
During the meeting, both leaders agreed to discuss a wide range of topics: artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and data centers. They plan to hold further government talks the next day to turn these ideas into action.
The conversation shows how countries can use trade agreements and shared resources to build stronger ties and create new opportunities for people on both sides of the Atlantic.
