Bruce Springsteen has released a new track, "Streets of Minneapolis, " aimed at the people of Minneapolis. The song criticizes President Trump's immigration enforcement actions in the city. It was written and recorded quickly over the weekend, following a second fatal shooting by federal immigration agents.
Springsteen's lyrics paint a picture of a city in turmoil, with "King Trump's private army" causing chaos. He dedicated the song to the people of Minneapolis, immigrants, and the memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good, the two victims of the shootings. The song starts softly, with just an acoustic guitar and Springsteen's voice, but builds up to a full band sound, complete with a harmonica solo. It ends with chants of "ICE Out! "
The White House responded to the song, saying the Trump Administration is focused on working with local Democrats to remove "dangerous criminal illegal aliens. " They dismissed the song as irrelevant and inaccurate.
This isn't the first time Springsteen has criticized the president. He's been vocal about his disapproval of Trump's administration. Last year, he even told an audience in England that America was in the hands of a corrupt administration. Trump has also criticized Springsteen, calling him an "overrated" rocker.
In related news, Minneapolis' First Avenue venue will host a benefit concert on Friday. The concert, featuring Tom Morello, Rise Against, and others, aims to support the families of the victims. Morello said they are going to Minneapolis to stand against ICE, Trump, and state terror.
