Northern California faced severe weather over the weekend, with heavy rain, snow, and strong winds causing chaos. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued flood-related alerts across the state, warning of dangerous conditions.
In Redding, Shasta County, one person lost their life due to flash flooding. The Redding Police Department reported several areas hit hard by the floods. Mary Lake Park saw significant water rise, while Shasta View had roads closed due to flooding. Capricorn Street had water levels above fire hydrants, and South Redding experienced localized flooding in backyards and low-lying areas. The I-5 Southbound near South Bonnyview also reported flooding.
Authorities urged residents to stay alert and avoid flooded areas. The Redding Police Department warned motorists to be cautious, as heavy rainfall had made multiple roadways impassable. They advised against driving through flooded areas, emphasizing the danger even shallow water poses.
As of early Monday, flood watches were in place across most of California, with warnings issued in parts of northern California, including Shasta County. The NWS reported water rescues in the area due to heavy rain. The Weather Prediction Center warned of an atmospheric river event bringing heavy precipitation, which could lead to flash flooding, landslides, rockfalls, and mudslides, especially in mountain areas.
