Call of Duty has always been a big deal in the gaming world. But now, Black Ops 7 is not doing as well as its predecessor, Black Ops 6. This is a big change from the usual trend where Call of Duty games are the top sellers in the US.
In the first 26 days after its release, Black Ops 7 sold about 401, 000 copies on Steam. That's a lot less than Black Ops 6, which sold 2. 3 million copies in the same time frame. It's important to note that both games were part of the PC Game Pass, which usually helps with sales. But even with that, Black Ops 7 didn't do as well.
The number of people playing Black Ops 7 every day has also dropped. In November 2025, it had 18 million daily active users, down from 36 million in December 2024. This trend started earlier with Modern Warfare in 2022, where the number of players on Steam kept decreasing. Black Ops 7 is now estimated to have between 50, 000 and 100, 000 players on Steam at any given time.
Experts say this is a big problem for Black Ops 7. They think it might be because people are getting tired of the franchise, or maybe they prefer other types of games. There's also a lot of competition from other titles. Whatever the reason, it's clear that Black Ops 7 is not doing as well as it should be.
Even Activision, the company behind Call of Duty, admitted that Black Ops 7 didn't meet their expectations. But Microsoft said that Call of Duty was the top franchise on Game Pass in 2025. So, while standalone sales might be down, the game is still popular on Game Pass.
We don't know what Activision and Microsoft have planned for Call of Duty in 2026. But one thing is for sure: there won't be any more Modern Warfare or Black Ops sequels released back-to-back.
