Alejandro Rosales Castillo, a 27-year-old U. S. citizen, has been hiding in Mexico for years. He is wanted for the 2016 murder of his former girlfriend, Truc Quan "Sandy" Ly Le, in North Carolina. The FBI added him to their "Ten Most Wanted" list in 2017, and now, he is finally in custody. The arrest happened on Friday, and officials say he will be sent back to North Carolina to face charges. This is a big deal because the FBI has been after him for a long time. It also shows that the U. S. and Mexico are working together to catch dangerous criminals. Castillo was working at a restaurant with Le when she was killed. Her body was found in a wooded area in Cabarrus County, North Carolina, on August 17, 2016. She had been shot in the head. Her car was found at a bus station in Phoenix, Arizona, two days earlier.
The case got a lot of attention when it was featured on a true crime show in 2020. Another person involved in the case, Ahmia Feaster, also fled to Mexico but turned himself in to authorities in October 2017. This arrest is part of a bigger effort by the U. S. to bring in people on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list. Over the past year, five people from that list have been caught. FBI Director Kash Patel said this is because the administration is giving law enforcement the support they need to get the job done. In March, Mexico also handed over Francisco Javier Roman-Bardales, a key leader of the MS-13 gang, after his arrest in Veracruz. This shows that international cooperation can lead to justice for victims and their families.
