You know how some people are healthier than others? It's not just genetics or lifestyle choices – it's also about where they live, what they eat, and how much money they have. These are called social determinants of health (SDOH). To measure these factors, researchers and doctors use tools like PRAPARE. We tested how good PRAPARE is at measuring SDOH in people with heart problems (CHD and HF). We asked 234 people from Kentucky clinics to fill it out twice, a few weeks apart. The test showed that PRAPARE is pretty reliable – it gives consistent results (with a score of 0.
76 and 0. 88). It also found three main areas that affect health: things like food and healthcare (Factor I), housing and mental well-being (Factor II), and insurance, school, and work (Factor III). We also found that people's PRAPARE scores were linked to how depressed they felt and how well they slept. So, PRAPARE seems like a solid tool for doctors and researchers to use when looking at SDOH in heart patients.
