Chicago Museum Takes a Break for Obama Center Opening
Chicago, IL, USASun Jun 07 2026
The Griffin Museum of Science and Industry will shut its doors on June 18 to help with the grand opening of the new Obama Presidential Center. The museum said it needs to close so visitors can move around the campus easily during the event.
On June 19, the museum will open again. That day is special because it marks its 93rd birthday and also falls on Juneteenth, a holiday celebrating freedom. The museum is offering free entry for Illinois residents to celebrate both occasions.
People who bought tickets for the closed day will get a full refund. They also receive a 30 percent discount on a future visit, according to the museum’s spokesperson.
The spokesperson added that both institutions share a focus on education and community. They see the Obama Center’s opening as a big step for the South Side of Chicago.
