Children’s New Home: A Fresh Start in Seongnam

Seongnam, Gyeonggi-do, South KoreaMon May 11 2026
Smilegate Hope Studio, led by Chair Kwon Hyuk‑bin, teamed up with Jongkim Design Studio to give a much‑needed makeover to Smile House No. 6, a shelter for children who lack basic support. The old building in Seongnam was riddled with electrical fire risks, leaking pipes, bad airflow and no private rooms for the kids. Jongkim’s team redesigned the space from scratch, adding safe wiring, better lighting and new furniture that also improves ventilation. The redesign didn’t happen alone. Twenty‑two companies from Jongkim’s “JKDN” network jumped in, each contributing a piece of the puzzle. Design Madonna handled construction work; You & Us installed a kitchen; and others supplied wallpapers, lighting fixtures, sanitary items and furniture. Their collective effort turned the once‑dangerous facility into a safer, more welcoming environment.
Alongside the renovation, Hope Studio launched a donation drive called “Building a Space of Hope Together. ” The money raised will buy learning materials and household appliances for the children, giving them tools to grow beyond their circumstances. Kim Jong‑wan of Jongkim Design Studio said he will keep using his design skills to help those in need. Kwon Yeon‑ju of Hope Studio thanked all the partners for their support and promised to keep building a network that brings resources, talent and kindness together. The studio’s long‑term goal is to spread hope among future generations by turning giving into a fun, game‑like experience with partners from the gaming and IP worlds.
