North Texas woke up to a winter wonderland on Saturday morning. Snow, sleet, and cold rain made their way into the DFW area. The question on everyone's mind: Are the roads safe? The answer is not straightforward. While widespread issues weren't reported early Saturday, conditions were deteriorating in the western parts of the Metroplex. Texas Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed coated roadways across the region after sunrise. The good news is that most people seemed to be staying home, avoiding the potentially dangerous roads. A crew near the Buc-ee's in Denton reported slushy conditions due to sleet and precipitation. Drivers also reported worsening conditions as they traveled.
Another crew heading from DFW Airport to Burleson saw a lot of sleet along the way, with some of it piling up along the sides of the road. The view in Burleson wasn't much better. Temperatures are expected to remain well below freezing through the weekend. This means that snow, ice, sleet, and freezing rain are all still possible. Road conditions are likely to worsen as the weekend goes on. So, what's the best advice? If you don't have to go out, stay home. The roads may not be safe for driving.
