You might have heard about some big military drills happening near Taiwan. China isn't happy with Taiwan's newest president, Lai Ching-te, who recently said China can't boss Taiwan around. So, as a response, China sent a huge fleet, including planes and ships, to show their might. They even used their aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, to play a game of sorts, pretending to block off key ports around Taiwan. It's like they're saying, "Look what we can do! " Taiwan, however, is standing firm. They've said they won't back down and are ready to face any threats.
The U. S. , which is a friend to Taiwan, has called for China to calm down and not cause trouble at sea. Although people in Taiwan are used to such drills, it's still a big deal, and both sides are keeping a close eye on each other. Some Chinese officials have also banned two Taiwanese individuals from entering China because they support Taiwan's independence. All of this is happening while Taiwan was once part of China and split away after a big war. It's like an old argument that hasn't been settled yet.
