City Hall Rising: A New Home for Rathdrum’s Future
Rathdrum, Idaho, USASun Jun 21 2026
Rathdrum is building a new city hall that looks like the nearby mountain, according to architect Marcus Valentine. He explained this at a ceremony where people raised a beam topped with an American flag and a small tree. The gesture comes from old Scandinavian traditions that honor the land.
The new building will sit on a 30‑acre plot on Lancaster Road, next to the North Idaho College Parker Center. It will have three floors and cover roughly 30, 000 square feet. The estimated cost is about $20 million, paid from a fund that was set up years ago so residents wouldn’t be taxed for it.
Walker Construction’s owner, Josh Chrisman, said the structure will “shape lives long after the final brick is laid. ” Mayor John Hodgkins added that the ceremony marks a milestone in a project that started over 20 years ago. The city’s leaders had always wanted a modern hall without burdening taxpayers, and now the skeleton of the building is complete.
Right now, Rathdrum’s city departments are spread out. The police office sits in an old building that has been renovated many times, and the parks and recreation team works out of a former ambulance bay. Moving everyone into one location will make city business run smoother.
City administrator Leon Duce noted that the current facilities are inadequate. He was hired in 2016 with a goal of having a new hall ready in five years, and now construction is nearing completion for 2027. He praised the hard work that has gone into saving funds and bringing the project to life.
When the new city hall opens, it will symbolize a commitment to efficient government and a stronger sense of community. Residents can look forward to a modern space that will serve them for years.
