Climbers stranded on Denali after a fall near the summit

Four climbers are stuck high on Denali, North America’s tallest mountain, after taking a serious tumble. The accident happened near Denali Pass, a notorious spot where many climbers have struggled over the years. The group was part of a bigger team of seven, but rescue teams can’t reach them yet because the weather won’t cooperate. The remaining three climbers stayed behind to help their fallen teammates before turning back to a lower camp. Reports say the injured group made it to a spot called High Camp, still thousands of feet below the 20, 310-foot summit. Bad weather has been a constant problem, with thick clouds blocking visibility. But conditions are starting to clear, which means helicopters might be able to fly in soon.
Denali sees a lot of climbers every year, with most attempts happening between late April and mid-July. This season, over 500 people have already tried their luck. Just the night before this incident, another rescue mission pulled two climbers off the mountain after something went wrong. The mountain’s dangerous traverse between High Camp and Denali Pass has been the site of many accidents, often because climbers rely too much on existing safety gear instead of bringing their own. Experts say that while rangers and guides set up extra anchors in risky areas, climbers should still carry their own gear. Weather on Denali is unpredictable, switching from clear skies to near-zero visibility in minutes. Though rescues are possible, the mountain’s harsh conditions mean every second counts.
