Connections Sports Puzzle: How to Crack It
USASun Apr 26 2026
A new puzzle called Connections Sports Edition has appeared online.
It is not part of the New York Times Games app, but it can be played for free on The Athletic website.
The puzzle gives four groups of words that share a theme.
Each group is labelled with a colour: yellow, green, blue and purple.
The easiest group, marked yellow, has the word “bottom” in it.
Other words that fit this idea are cellar, last and worst.
The green group is about NBA teams you see on scoreboards.
Its members are DEN, OKC, SAC and WAS.
The blue group is for famous hockey goaltenders who are in the Hall of Fame.
Their names are Brodeur, Fuhr, Parent and Roy.
The purple group is for baseball video games.
The titles are Backyard, High Heat, Slugfest and The Show.
Some categories can be trickier for people who do not follow every sport.
Examples of hard ones include Italian Serie A clubs, WNBA MVPs and nicknames for Premier League teams.
