In a shocking incident, a 51-year-old man, identified as Lamont Campbell, has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder in connection with a deadly hijacking of a Los Angeles Metro bus. According to reports, Campbell hijacked the bus around 1 a. m. on Wednesday, taking the driver and two passengers hostage. The incident unfolded like a scene from a thriller movie, with police chasing the bus for over an hour before Campbell finally surrendered. As the investigation continues, authorities have revealed that the hijacking started at Figueroa Street and Manchester Avenue in South Los Angeles. Campbell allegedly used a gun to take control of the bus, prompting the driver to continue driving while being held at gunpoint. The passengers, including a 51-year-old man who was found with multiple gunshot wounds, were also taken hostage.
Despite the tense situation, the bus driver remained calm and continued to operate the vehicle until it eventually came to a stop at 6th and Alameda streets in downtown LA. Once the bus stopped, officers from the LAPD's Transit Services Division deployed several spike strips, puncturing the right tire and bringing the bus to a halt. Campbell then surrendered, and SWAT officers took him into custody. The man who was found with gunshot wounds was pronounced dead at the hospital, and his identity has not been released. The second passenger was not injured. The bus driver, who is considered a hero for his actions, is receiving support from Metro. In the aftermath of the incident, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have spoken out, calling for increased security measures and a system to prevent people from carrying weapons onto buses and trains. With this incident serving as a wake-up call, authorities are working to bolster security and keep passengers safe.
