Deadly Moscow Concert Hall Shooting: 19 Convicted
Moscow, RussiaThu Mar 12 2026
A Moscow court sentenced nineteen people to prison after the March 22, 2024 massacre at Crocus City Hall. The attack claimed 149 lives and injured more than 600, making it one of the city’s worst terrorist incidents.
The Islamic State faction announced responsibility, claiming the four gunmen were Tajik citizens who first fired at concertgoers waiting for a rock band, then set the hall ablaze.
The judges handed out harsh sentences: fifteen people received life imprisonment, one was given 22½ years, and three were sentenced to nearly twenty years each.
Those who earned life terms will serve a portion in a standard prison before moving to a penal colony with strict conditions.
Fines ranged from 500, 000 rubles ($6, 300) to 2. 7 million rubles ($34, 000).
The trial started in August 2025 at a military court, as is typical for terrorism cases. It was held behind closed doors to protect security, with three judges overseeing the proceedings.
Russian officials accused Ukraine of involvement, though no evidence was presented and Kyiv denied any role. The Investigative Committee described the attack as a plot aimed at destabilizing Russia, allegedly orchestrated by Ukrainian leadership.
The four assailants attempted to flee toward Ukraine but were apprehended hours later. They appeared in court with visible signs of severe beatings.
Additional defendants included three men who supplied the attackers with a vehicle, one who rented them an apartment, and ten others accused of having terrorist links.
