A student at Weber State University shared a recording that sparked a heated debate. The recording captured a debate coach, Ryan Wash, making some controversial statements. He claimed that science and space are just "White Fantasies. " He even suggested that space isn't real and that all white people should be launched into outer space. This sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it's real life. The student, Michael Moreno, recorded these interactions as part of his debate class. He wanted to show how the instructor was pushing his own beliefs instead of encouraging open debate. Wash argued that science and technology are tools used by white people to control what's considered true. He even dismissed the idea of black astronauts, saying we can't be sure if any have been to space. Moreno pointed out that the instructor's approach was flawed. He argued that personal experiences should be used as evidence in debates. But Wash dismissed this, calling it "colonialism. " He also claimed that "Whiteness as a structure definitely rules the world. " This is a pretty strong statement, and it's not something you'd expect to hear in a debate class.Moreno shared his concerns with Campus Reform. He thinks this is just one example of academic corruption and indoctrination. He's worried that this kind of teaching is happening in a debate class, where the goal should be intellectual diversity and open exchange of ideas. Weber State University is aware of the video. They said the audio was part of a longer discussion where the debate team talks about different social issues. The university supports academic freedom and has policies to protect both faculty and students from harassment and discrimination.
