The latest expansion of Diablo 4, the Vessel of Hatred, has been well-received, but not everyone is happy about the new Dark Citadel dungeon. This is the first time in any Diablo game where players are required to team up with others for a challenge. While Diablo games always had optional co-op play, this is the first time solo play isn't an option. Diehard solo players weren't thrilled with this new requirement. They felt like they were being forced into a style of play they didn't enjoy. However, Brent Gibson, the game director for the Vessel of Hatred expansion, is standing firm. He believes that Dark Citadel is a great addition to the game and that forced group content is a good idea for Diablo.
Gibson reassured players that they don't have to play the Dark Citadel to be the most efficient in the game. He likes that Diablo 4 offers a variety of activities and paths for players. Rod Fergusson, the Diablo general manager, agreed. He said that the endgame now has so many options that players can choose what they want to do. There are many places to go, like the Kurast Undercity, the Citadel, the Pit, and more. Fergusson also pointed out that Diablo 4 now has a Party Finder function to make it easier for players to find groups. Gibson noted that the gaming community is changing. More players and developers are preferring to play games with friends or online with others.
