Iran and the US are still talking, but they are far apart on the nuclear deal. The US wants Iran to stop enriching uranium. Iran says it has the right to do so under the 2015 nuclear deal. The US pulled out of this deal in 2018.
At a recent UN meeting, Iran's ambassador said his country is ready for real talks. He blamed the US, France, and Britain for not doing enough to rebuild trust. The US ambassador said Iran should stop its nuclear activities and start meaningful talks.
Iran has been making more uranium, which worries other countries. The UN's nuclear watchdog says Iran now has over 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%. This is close to the 90% needed for nuclear weapons.
France, Britain, and Germany triggered a "snapback" mechanism to bring back sanctions on Iran. They say Iran is not following the nuclear deal. Russia's UN ambassador criticized these countries, saying their diplomatic efforts have failed.
The US ambassador said President Trump has offered diplomacy to Iran. But she accused Iran of not taking this offer. She told Iran to stop its nuclear activities and start talks with the US.
Iran's ambassador said the US is not being fair. He warned that if France and Britain keep siding with the US, diplomacy will fail. He said Iran will not give in to pressure.
