Economic Growth Pushes Central Pennsylvania Forward
Central Pennsylvania, USASun Mar 29 2026
Central Pennsylvania counties saw a boost in business and jobs during 2025. In Blair County, a local development group finished 34 projects that added $82. 9 million in new money and kept many jobs safe. Most of the companies they helped are small, with fewer than 20 workers, and they bring life to town streets. Big names like DelGrosso Foods and Benzel’s Bakery opened new plants, while a downtown building was set to be rebuilt.
The county also began clearing an old mill site in Roaring Spring, looking for new uses. Leaders noted that the region’s hills and wetlands make it hard to find space for large projects, so partners in nearby Bedford and Centre counties are important. They hope that new homes and mid‑size housing will bring fresh workers to the area.
Bedford County moved quickly after a longtime leader retired. A new business park plan was drawn up on a 44‑acre plot, and state money helped start the design work. The county also focused on housing for workers because many local companies say they can’t hire enough people if there’s no place to live. New training programs for small businesses covered topics from AI to social media, and the county celebrated a ten‑year trail milestone.
Clearfield County’s small business team helped 201 companies with plans, leading to $8. 4 million in investment and the creation of 31 new jobs. Outsiders from other states and countries are looking at the area for manufacturing, warehousing, and tech work. The county plans to keep working on outdoor recreation projects along a river and will support energy‑heavy, advanced‑manufacturing projects in 2026.
Centre County attracted new firms and kept growing its housing, hospitality and tourism sectors. A big Amazon warehouse opened in December, and several hotels, a casino, and new schools are coming soon. The county also worked with the state university to improve air service at its regional airport, hoping that better travel links will bring more business and tourists.
Overall, the counties are building on their strengths by keeping small businesses alive, adding jobs, and creating new homes. They also plan to use regional partnerships to get larger projects that fit the unique landscape of central Pennsylvania.
