Europe is falling behind in tech. A well-known industry expert, Louis Gallois, recently pointed this out. He said Europe is slow to make decisions and stuck in bureaucracy. Meanwhile, China is way ahead. Gallois suggested Europe should work more with Chinese companies. This could help Europe learn and catch up.
This idea might sound odd. After all, relations between China and the West are not great. China's cheap goods are causing problems. The EU is even thinking about banning Huawei. But Gallois knows the risks of working with China. He was involved in setting up an Airbus factory in China. Back then, forced partnerships and technology sharing were seen as a necessary part of doing business.
But times have changed. China is making progress in aviation, even though it's still behind the West. In the car industry, Europe is struggling. Last year, 100, 000 jobs were lost. Efforts to start new battery companies, like Northvolt, are not going well.
So, is working with China the answer? It's not straightforward. But one thing is clear: Europe needs to do something. Sitting back and doing nothing is not an option. The question is, what's the best way forward?
