Evening trouble: Two hurt in early-morning fight on East Carson Street
Pittsburgh, USAMon May 11 2026
A quiet Sunday morning in Pittsburgh’s South Side turned rough when two men were hurt in a fight near East Carson and South 18th streets just after 3 a. m. Police arrived fast, but one man ended up with a stab wound to the cheek. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and is now in stable shape. The second man had a hand injury and also got medical help. Neither victim’s name was released, and police wouldn’t say what started the fight.
This isn’t an isolated event. The South Side Flats area, packed with bars and restaurants, has seen more crime this year compared to last. From January to April, police logged 846 incidents—up from 715 last year. Aggravated assaults jumped from 11 to 18, and there was one homicide where there’d been none before. Thefts and sex offenses are also rising, though robberies have dropped. Arson stayed at zero in both years.
South Side Flats sits between the lively South Side Slopes and the Monongahela River, making it a hotspot for nightlife. More people out late often means more chances for conflicts. But the jump in serious crimes raises questions: Is this just a bad start to the year, or part of a bigger trend? With so many visitors, could better lighting or security help keep things calmer?
