Ever wondered what makes a great Windows wallpaper? Microsoft recently hosted a global contest for photographers to capture the next iconic image for its Surface devices. The stakes were high, given the fame of Bliss, the default wallpaper for Windows XP, which is reportedly the most viewed photo ever. Seven photographers from different corners of the world joined the challenge, each showcasing the beauty of their home country.
Caleb Wielhouwer from the U. S. headed to Alaska, capturing its scenic beauty. Frauke Hamesiter from Germany ventured into remote regions, hiking trails to find that perfect shot. Kate Hook from the U. K. traveled to Glencoe, Scotland, seeking atmospheric shots of the Highlands. Justin Choquette from Canada drove over 7, 000 kilometers in his truck, camping along the way.
Australia's Zac Watson took a helicopter ride over the Outback to capture Horizontal Falls. Loic Lagarde from France used drones to shoot stunning castles. Kohki Yamaguchi from Japan made the trek to Mount Fuji for his attempt. Thanks to the positive feedback, these photos are now officially available on Windows.
